Some Facts about Oman

Oman is located on the south-east corner of Arabian Peninsula. With a coastline 1700km long, Oman features a great sea-faring tradition. Omanis had been famous for their maritime skills that include navigation and shipbuilding. In the ninth and 10th centuries, Sohar (375km north of the capital city; Muscat) had been the largest port in Arabia, because of trade links established by Omani seamen with Baluchistan, Yemen and Zanzibar.

Many museums and galleries around the historic harbors of Muscat and Muttrah illuminate the importance of the sea throughout 5,000 year-old history of the country.

There are a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites in and around Nizwa (130km from Muscat) like Bahla Fort and a still-working 1500 years old irrigation system, Aflaj.

The conference is scheduled keeping in mind the fact that the best time to visit Oman is from November to March. More info about Oman can be found at www.omantourism.gov.om.
